Softs

Cocoa bean prices were up on London ICE (+5%) and ICE US (+4%),supported by concerns over recent wet weather in West Africa. For cocoa derivatives, cocoa butter prices were up in the UK (+16%), however, cocoa powder prices fell in the UK (-1%).

Oils and fats

Soyabean oil prices rose on the CBOT US (+4%), in Argentina (+2%) and in Rotterdam (+1%), due to downward revisions in global production. Rapeseed oil prices rose in Canada (+2%), but remained stable in Rotterdam (0%). Palm oil prices fell in Indonesia (-5%), but rose in Rotterdam (+2%) and Malaysia (+2%). Palm kernel oil prices rose in Indonesia (+10%), Rotterdam (+7%) and Malaysia (+2%) due to lower than expected production and speculative buying. Coconut oil prices rose in Rotterdam (+9%), but remained stable in the Philippines (0%). Sunflower oil prices fell in Ukraine (-2%), Argentina (-1%) and Russia (-1%) and remained stable in NW Europe (0%) due to record carryover stocks from the previous season. Extra virgin olive oil prices fell in Italy (-10%) and Spain (-3%), due to good production from recent harvests. Lampante oil prices remained stable in Spain (0%). Linseed oil prices rose in Argentina (+2%).

Grains

Milling wheat prices fell on Euronext Paris (-3%) and in Germany (-2%), due to higher yields revised for October, up 1% m-om. Prices also fell on CBOT US (-1%), but rose in the UK 2%.

Milling wheat prices rose on CBOT US (+7%), in the UK (+3%) and Germany (+1%), but fell on Euronext Paris (- 1%).

Oat prices rose on CBOT US (+10%) and Finland (+4%). Rye prices remained stable in Finland (0%).

Ingredients

Hazelnut prices continued falling in Turkey (-3%). Almond prices rose in the US (+4%) and Spain (+2%), supported by strong demand. For dried fruit, sultanas prices declined in Turkey (-2%), with raisin prices also falling in Turkey (-1%) and the US (-1%). Dried apricot prices fell in Turkey (-4%). Desiccated coconut prices remained stable in the Philippines (0%).

Milk and dairy

Butter prices fell in the EU (-7%), as high prices started to weigh down on consumer demand. Prices fell in the UK (-20%), France (-19%), Belgium (-14%) and Germany (-11%), but remained stable in Poland (0%). Prices for cheese fell for UK Cheddar (-4%) but Mozzarella prices rose (+5%). Weak demand and rising production resulted in SMP prices falling in the EU (-10%). This also weighed down on prices in the US (-10%) and New Zealand (-6%).

WMP prices fell in the EU (-7%). EU egg prices continued to rise on average (+23%), as supplies remain disrupted after the fipronil outbreak.

Energy

Brent crude oil prices rose on ICE London (+1%), due to fighting in Northern Iraq resulted in falling output. Light sweet crude oil prices remained stable in NYMEX US (0%). Diesel prices rose in the EU (+1%), as a result of increased industrial demand alongside tighter supplies.
