Prestigious Richmont Club holds baking competition and annual meeting

Born out of the continuation of rationing after the Second World War, a number of master bakers attended the prestigious Richmont Bakery course in Switzerland, to gain instruction in Swiss Patisserie and to encourage the growth of the industry.

The camaraderie and friendship formed during the trip was so strong that it lead to the creation of a social group 'The Great Britain Richmont Club', which have regular meetings and competitions to swap ideas and test their skills.

Their Annual Competition and Meeting this year was held at BAKO North Westerns, BAKORY facility on the 30th April and showcased both their baking skills, in a fiercely fought competition, but also the handing over of the club presidency.

The attendees were invited to submit products into any of the four competition categories which included bread, Easter fondant fancies, pork pies and cupcakes and attend the formal annual meeting.

The competition standards were extremely high, creative and tasted fantastic, which made judging difficult. John Robertshaw, Technical Consultant for BAKO North Western comments "The standard of entries are as you would expect were absolutely superb and a pleasure to judge".

While judging took place the ceremonial hand over of the club presidency from Graham Kelly to Martin Weinholt commenced. Martin Weinholt commented" It's an honour to take up the reins of leading the fantastic club into the future".

The whole night was rounded off with a spot of networking and a few celebratory drinks, Graham Kelly comments "The event has been a fantastic success and we would like to thank BAKO North Western for their wonderful hospitality".
